ACRE supports pro-cooperative candidates

Whether traveling Arkansas' scenic highways or surfing the Internet, it is evident that the 2008 election campaign has definitely arrived along with summer's warm breezes. The combined Arkansas summer and election season has resulted in a critical time for the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas and Arkansas Action Committee for Rural Electrification (Arkansas ACRE).

Arkansas ACRE has been busy at work preparing for this election for many months now. As a political action committee for the electric cooperatives, one of Arkansas ACRE's key roles is to support candidates for office that we believe are "pro-cooperative." One key way that we do that is by making campaign contributions to those candidates.

How do we decide which candidates to support? The main criteria include a lawmaker's, or potential lawmaker's, leadership abilities and his or her stand on issues of importance to Arkansas and the electric cooperatives. The selections are made through a collaborative effort that includes input from local cooperative managers and directors, while maintaining close contacts with local and state lawmakers. Through these avenues, Arkansas ACRE can make informed decisions on which candidates understand and support cooperative goals and initiatives. Because it is important for ACRE members to know how your ACRE contribution is being spent, Arkansas ACRE is offering a list of candidates (below) that are supported by Arkansas ACRE during the 2010 election cycle:
